Origin Laser

As some of you might know we recently ordered a larger Laser Tube for our laser cutter (60 Watts up from 40 Watts). Unfortunately it failed to work when installed in our machine and we all had to step back and scratch our heads. Was the tube dead on arrival? or did we have a power problem in the High Voltage supply?

Enter Origin Laser, I reached out to a few local businesses and Ross at Origin Laser was immediately helpful and supportive of the HackerSpace (he may visit soon so make him welcome). Origin Laser kindly tested our tube for us on their own machines. The bad news is that our tube was indeed dead on arrival, the good news is that Origin Laser are an excellent friendly local business, they do laser engraving, cutting and marking as service with some excellent results and they sell their own line of machines at very reasonable prices.

So check them out: http://www.originlaser.com.au/

and behold the broken tube:

Next steps is to try and get the tube replaced and source new mirrors, in the meantime we have decided to run the laser cutter as is, so feel free start thinking about those projects.
