CCHS has a structured fee system. This system is aimed to reduce fees for the people who do not use the space regularly, while covering the necessary costs of our operation.
To become a member of the CCHS mailing list is free (a google groups account is required), and we encourage people to join the list to see the sorts of things we discuss This gives you a good insight into the ongoing and planned projects that CCHS are working on. We also encourage people from other Hackerspacers to join the list if they visit Melbourne with any regularity, specifically if they want to drop in and catch up from time to time.
As stated in our Rules of Association, to become a member of CCHS (the organisation) costs $50. This gives you the right to vote at Annual and Special General Meetings, and to stand for the Committee. Additionally, certain equipment at the space will only be available for use by members, or by specialised prior arrangement (eg: invited speakers/instructors).
Currently, CCHS does not have a location. Once a location has been organised, fees for usage of the site will be arranged based upon the outgoings for the site. These will be used to cover most of the day to day expenses of running a space (eg: rent/utilities/insurance), as well as for the purchase of new tools and equipment, as approved by the committee. CCHS aims to offer two tiers of site fees; A normal site fee, and a subsidised site fee for students/unemployed/etc. Additionally, once-off site access fees are being considered.
