Who are we?
CCHS is an enthusiastic group of hardware hobbyists and/or software programmers in Melbourne, Australia.
Many of us are one (or more) of the following:
- Designers
- Hobbyists
- Professionals
- Performance Artists
- Students
We enjoy getting together to build new and challenging technology projects and curious gadgets for fun and education! A friendly and inclusive not-for-profit group.
Details about our committee, support crew, and the administrative details of CCHS can be found at our Administration page.
What have we done?
CCHS started as 2 people meeting in a garage. Now our weekly meetings generally gather over 20 like-minded members, and that number is growing.
During this time, some of the projects that have come to fruition are:
- Aiko – Ardunio Modular Software Framework.
- Pebble – An Arduino shield with LCD, ZigBee, sensors, relays and much more, aimed at learning.
- CNC Router – Building our own tools rather than buying them.
- PCB Manufacturing – Helping make technology rather than buying it.
Why are we doing this?
Consumer product trends tend to discourage us from understanding how things work, how to repair and how to improve them. We passionately support the Maker and Hacker culture which encourages people to ‘open the box’ and learn for themselves.
To that end, CCHS aims to:
- Build up a wide toolkit and workplace for anyone to get their hobby or technology idea started.
- Share our experience, skills and enthusiasm through collaboration and education.
- Allow our members to socialise and meet other interesting, like-minded people.
- Create a supportive, welcoming and creative environment, no matter what your level of experience.
Where are we?
CCHS is currently looking for a location to call home. Until this issue is resolved, we hold all meetings in a garage space belonging to one of our members. We hope to have a permanent location soon.
In the meantime, if you wish to know the meeting location, please contact member andyg (geekscape) or Twitter direct message @geekscape.
When?
Details of meetings can be found on our Meeting Details page and on the CCHS Calendar.
